Lützerath was a village in Germany that was completely demolished in early 2023 to expand open-pit lignite mining. There was a lot of resistance against the demolition of the area. More and more climate activists occupied the site and protested against eviction. The trigger for the increasing occupation and the ongoing protests in Lützerath is climate protection. Despite coal phase-out 2030, the site was demolished.
The pictures were taken shortly before the eviction of the village, in January 2023.
